  1.                    REQUIRED TOOLS AND CLEANERS

  3. Certain cleaners must be used to clean each of the computer
  4. components.  There are many companies that manufacture  chemical
  5. cleaners for computers and electronic equipments.  A few well
  6. known companies are:

  8. Chemtronics
  9. Rawn Company
  10. LPS Chemical products
  11. G.C. Thorsen
  12.  
  13. If you visit your local or nearest electronics supplies store (not
  14. Radio Shack ) you will see their products displayed in the
  15. cleaning supplies section. Some of the cleaners you'll see on
  16. display are:

  18. 1- TF SOLVENT
  19.  
  20. The best electronic circuit board cleaners are made from 100% TF
  21. solvent. TF solvent is a mild high purity cleaner and degreaser
  22. which is ideal for cleaning sensitive equipment and precision
  23. instruments. It is used to clean all types of computers,
  24. calculators, VCRs, VTR equipment, office equipment, PC boards,
  25. negatives, movie films and any other equipment that requires a
  26. safe no residue cleaner. It is known as the safest degreasing
  27. solvent available for computers.

  29. TF solvent is safe on plastics and all metals. It removes dirt,
  30. soil, and leaves no residue. It is non-flammable, and non-toxic.
  31. You can use it safely to clean all computer boards including main
  32. boards, expansion cards, and all the internal circuitry of
  33. computers.  It comes depending on the manufacturer in aerosol cans
  34. in the following sizes: 8 oz., 12 oz., 16 oz., 20 oz., and 24 oz.
  35. It is also available in liquid form as 8 oz, 16 oz, 1 gallon, 5
  36. gallon, and 55 gallons. The liquid TF solve can be used with swabs
  37. or cloths as a general purpose cleaners for all the equipment
  38. listed above.

  40. 2- GAS DUSTERS
  41.  
  42. Gas dusters are essential for cleaning applications where liquid
  43. solvents are not appropriate. They remove dust, lint, and foreign
  44. particles from electrical, electronic, optical, and office
  45. equipment with a burst of dry inert gas. They are totally dry and
  46. leave no residue.

  48. The best ones are composed of a reusable valve assembly and a
  49. refill can (12 oz. or 20 oz. ). Some of them include a 36"
  50. extension hose that attaches to the valve nozzle. This allows for
  51. cleaning of the most inaccessible areas. Dusters are available
  52. from electronic supply stores, computer houses and photography
  53. stores.

  55. 3- SWABS
  56.  
  57. Swabs are made of highly absorbent materials and are usually used
  58. with some liquid cleaner to clean, and remove oxides and soils
  59. from computers, VTRs, VCRs, and the magnetic tapes.

  61. Some types of swabs for example, such as  Chemswab by Chemtronics,
  62. come presaturated with isopropyl alcohol. They are used  to clean
  63. the area between keyboard keys.

  65. 4- PADS OR WIPERS
  66.  
  67. Pads are available presaturated and ready to use as a general
  68. purpose cleaning of computers and other equipments. CHEMPAD (made
  69. by Chemtronics) is very effective in removing ink and grease.

  71. 5- GLASS CLEANERS
  72.  
  73. Glass cleaners are used for cleaning the CRT (monitor screen). You
  74. may use any general purpose glass cleaner for the CRT or you can
  75. use PLAST-N-GLASS, or SCREEN PREP form Chemtronics. The advantage
  76. of the later cleaners is that they eliminate static charges on the
  77. display screen.

  79. 6- OTHER TOOLS AND SUPPLIES

  81. You will need a screwdriver to use for opening the computer case
  82. so that you will be able to clean the inside of the computer. If
  83. you don't want to use the special PADS or WIPERS, you need to buy
  84. some towels and an all purpose cleaner such as 409. A disk drive
  85. cleaning kit is also required to clean disk drive heads.

  87. Most of the cleaners described above are available from your local
  88. electronic supplies store. Some computer stores may carry some of
  89. the cleaners also. Dusters can be found at photography stores.
